At home, we regularly offer bananas and drinking water to the spirit house.

Today, by coincidence, we saw a rat eating the bananas that had been offered. It was kind of funny — but also a bit alarming. If someone didn’t know and took the offering to eat afterward, that could be quite dangerous.

The little visitor probably comes by often. In a way, it feels like the offering reaches both the spirit house and the animals at the same time — a two-in-one kind of merit.

For anyone who likes to eat food from offerings… better be careful. You might get a little “extra blessing” you didn’t ask for.
